Our roving rover reporter was delighted to meet a local resident of Puppyhurst last week, a lady of distinction and class: Sofie, an impressive 14 years old! Sofie is a stately purebred Golden Retriever who was born in Chicago, and her furever hoomans drove all the way from Boston to retrieve their new pupper girl. Once in Boston, Sofie took to swimming in the cold Atlantic ocean like a duck. Which is good because she has two Indian Runner duck siblings, so they have a lot to talk about.
Currently Sofie is enjoying walks around the Victory Heights neighborhood with her beloved Dad, who lets her sniff as much and leave as many notes for other doggos as she likes. And since she is deaf, all this sniffing and notes are very important. She worries that when she barks at other dogs, they might think she is not friendly, but Sofie is very friendly with everybody and really just wants to bark, “Hi!” Dad says she’s very gentle.
When asked through an interpreter what her favorite things in life are, Sofie barked, “Let me think… I love food. Ice cream, fries, and donuts! But I think I love walks more. No, I like balls better. I love making up games with balls where I drop them and try to catch them as they fall. That’s hours of entertainment! No, wait. I like Mom and the ducks even better. But, and don’t tell Mom, but I love Dad especially. I can’t imagine things without him. He’s my whole life!”
